Cross-border Excursions

There are many exciting destinations which can be reached easily from the National Park Region – our central position at the junction of three countries make us an ideal starting point for excursions. Close by is Passau, the town of the three rivers, or UNESCO World Heritage Site Regensburg with its narrow streets.  Also worthwhile is a visit to towns on the other side of the border in the Czech Republic, for example Prachatice or Cesky Krumlov (a World Heritage Site since 1992). As well as a piece of the American Wild West at the Pullmann City in Eging am See, the Gabreta Celtic Village near Ringelai offers a trip back to ancient times. At the Bavarian Forest Animal Park at Lohberg you can discover local animals, and there are tours through the old silver mine at Bodenmais, as well as Bärwurz- and schnaps distilleries, a snuff museum and lots more gems which are just waiting to be discovered. The Tourist Information Offices will help you to put together a programme of excursions.

If you want to reach your destinations without stress, there are bus companies who offer a variety of day tours which you can join in the village where you are staying. You can get information on organized tours from the local Tourist Information offices or the bus companies themselves:
