Bavarian Forest Trail

Friends of Nordic skiing will find trails from which they can enjoy the natural quiet and beauty of nature here in the Bavarian Forest. Hundreds of kilometers of well cleared trails lead through this magical winter wonderland..
Our special highlight is the Bavarian Forest Trail (Bayerwaldloipe) from the Arber-Osser area to the Dreisessel through the whole National Park region at the foot of the Falkenstein, Rachel and Lusen – a total of 150 kilometres of wonderful cross country skiing.
Just follow the snowflake which marks the whole of the route of the Bayerwaldloipe. Easy sections alternate with more difficult ones but the beautiful winter scenery is everywhere. At the end of a strenuous day there are plenty of comfortable inns for refreshments and overnight stays.
A flyer with detailed route descriptions and other important information is available from local Tourist Infos.
Lists of places to stay, who will also help with organising the transport of luggage, are available from:

Information on the condition of the Bayerwaldloipe

The Bayerwaldloipe mainly covers existing trails. As far as possible, the necessary connections were made by avoiding additional forest clearing. For this reason, there are no additional facilities such as changing rooms, WCs, showers and saunas along the trail. In order to protect the natural surroundings from damage by cross country skiing, there are sometimes short distances to be walked in order to get to the next section and sometimes road crossings, which also necessitate taking off skis.
On the other hand, the cross country skier is surrounded by a wonderful almost untouched landscape, varying between forest and open country with distant views.
A current flyer with all necessary information can be obtained free of charge in all local Tourist Information offices.
