Glass Forest

The art of glassmaking was established in the National Park region many centuries ago . The forest supplied the raw materials – the wood to heat the early furnaces, potash obtained from beech wood and quartz containing rocks – everything could be found here in liberal quantities in the “Glass Forest”.

Glassworks were set up everywhere, initially making rosary beads, later artistic Art Nouveau glass and shimmering lead crystal.
